SCU Energy Storage Outcomes Africa Climate Challenges

SCU Energy Storage Overcomes African Climate Challenges: Powers Nigerian Supermarket with Reliable Electricity

As Africa’s energy structure continues to optimize, Nigeria is actively promoting the widespread application of renewable energy in the commercial field. Recently, SCU successfully delivered a GRES energy storage system to a supermarket in Nigeria. It was integrated with the customer’s deployed photovoltaic system to build an efficient and stable solar energy storage microgrid system, achieving a more reliable green energy supply.

Sunny place in the energy dilemma

Some areas of Nigeria have limited grid coverage, and unstable power supply has long plagued commercial users. In order to ensure the continuous power supply required for the daily operation of the supermarket, the supermarket has installed a photovoltaic system to meet basic power demand. However, since solar power generation is affected by weather and time, there are still pain points such as strong volatility and inability to allocate.

To this end, the customer introduced SCU’s GRES series energy storage system to improve the utilization rate of photovoltaic power, enhance energy self-sufficiency, and achieve a stable power supply around the clock.

Solution

SCU customized and deployed the GRES integrated energy storage system for the project, which integrates: 75kWh high-safety lithium battery, 50kW intelligent bidirectional PCS converter.

The system seamlessly connects with photovoltaics and can achieve the following functions:

  • Photovoltaic priority during the day: photovoltaic power is used to power loads (such as refrigerators and cash register systems) first, and the remaining power is used to charge energy storage;
  • At night or in rainy weather, energy storage automatically releases electricity to ensure the operation of key loads such as supermarket lighting and security monitoring;
  • Support off-grid operation to improve power independence and stability;
  • Reduce dependence on expensive and unstable diesel power generation and reduce operating costs.

Conqueror of high temperature and high humidity environment:

  • Battery cells are stable and resistant to high temperature: using SCU new generation battery cells, the cycle life is greater than 4000 times;
  • Moisture-proof and dust-proof design: IP55 protection level, 0-95% relative humidity, to withstand Nigeria’s dry and rainy seasons.

Safe and easy to maintain:

  • Three-level safety management of the battery system prevents overcharging, over-discharging and overcurrent;
  • Battery cell adopts an isolation bracket design to effectively prevent heat diffusion;
  • Battery pack is connected in series to eliminate circulation and improve the safety factor;
  • Modular design is easier to operate and maintain.

    Project results

    After GRES went online, the supermarket achieved a significant improvement in power stability and effectively reduced energy consumption costs. The system is intelligently managed and responds quickly, greatly improving the overall operational efficiency. At the same time, the application of clean energy also helps customers achieve corporate social responsibility goals and promote regional green energy transformation.
