Smart Heavy-Duty Truck EV Charger for Swiss Logistics Fleets

Smart Heavy-Duty Truck Charging Hub for Swiss Logistics Fleets

SCU has implemented a smart heavy-duty charging hub for a Swiss logistics operator running a fleet of 20 electric trucks. The project demonstrates how intelligent charging can overcome grid limitations while maintaining reliable daily fleet operations.

Charging Under Grid Constraints

The fleet depot operates under limited grid capacity, a common situation for logistics sites across Europe. Before the deployment, simultaneous charging required manual load management and, at times, the shutdown of other electrical loads to avoid grid overload.

SCU addressed this challenge by deploying the EVMS PRO DC charging solution, integrated with the customer’s existing OCPP-based backend. The system was configured to operate fully within the available grid envelope, eliminating the need for infrastructure upgrades.

Intelligent Power Control in Daily Operation

At the core of the solution is grid-aware power control. Charging power can be capped and adjusted dynamically, allowing multiple trucks to charge without exceeding site limits. In practice, this enables stable charging during peak operational hours while keeping other depot systems fully operational.

Since commissioning, the site has recorded zero grid overload incidents, even during periods of high EV charging demand. Charging availability has remained close to 100%, ensuring that no vehicle misses its scheduled charging window.

By aligning charging power with real-time grid conditions, the fleet has achieved more predictable energy usage and improved operational stability, without additional stress on the local grid.

Built for Scale and Long-Term Electrification

The project was designed with future expansion in mind. As grid capacity evolves or additional vehicles are added, charging parameters can be adjusted through software, avoiding downtime or hardware replacement.

For the operator, this translates into lower infrastructure costs, reduced operational risk, and a clear pathway to scale fleet electrification. For SCU, the project reinforces its focus on combining industrial-grade charging hardware with intelligent energy management, supporting the practical realities of heavy-duty electrification across Europe.
