China National Project: South-to-North Water Diversion

Background: China covers more than 9.6 million square kilometers, in the south east of China was facing the problem of water shortage. The idea of bring water from South China to North China was firstly proposed by Present Mao in 1952. Total length of the three lines for water transport up to 4350 kms, 44.8 billion cubic meters water was transported, and 438 million people benefit from this project.
