SCU EV charger helps DHL Express zero carbon plan

DHL Express, as one of the world’s top 500 enterprises, focuses on developing international time limited express delivery and global document and parcel express delivery and is committed to becoming a market leader in green logistics. It plans to reduce all logistics-related emissions to zero by 2050. In China’s overall new energy transformation plan, we will vigorously promote the electrification of logistics vehicles. It is planned that the proportion of electric logistics vehicles will reach 30% this year.
In 2018, DHL Express carried out strategic cooperation with SCU, adhering to the concept of “sustainable development” and relying on SCU’s perfect charging solutions, to accelerate the layout of the national charging network. Up to now, more than 20 EV charging stations have been built in Beijing, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Zhejiang, and other places, which has become a powerful power guarantee for the green logistics system.

EV charging stations

Integrated EV charger solutions
At present, DHL Express has established a broad international express service network in China, covering 80% of China’s population centers and economic centers. The construction of EV charging stations needs to adjust measures to local conditions, control in-depth market research, and build a charging solution of “intelligent fast charging as the main, orderly slow charging as the auxiliary” by virtue of the profound technology accumulation and industry experience in charging infrastructure, providing corresponding technologies and schemes for different regions.
SCU has provided many series of products such as DC EV charger, AC EV charger, and split DC charging system, with a total of nearly 100 terminals. In combination with wireless charging software and hardware, supporting charging service network operation monitoring system and electric travel service platform, it has fully integrated DHL Express Group’s operation management system, creating an intelligent and convenient end-to-end solution.

Achieve safe and fast charging
As a means of delivery, logistics vehicles must be on standby around the clock to ensure high attendance and smooth freight logistics, and the corresponding charging frequency will also increase. Therefore, whether it can meet the demand for safe and fast charging has become a key indicator for the construction of charging stations.
Relying on the core technical advantages in the field of fast charging, the SCU EV charger uses a new generation of power modules internally. The power of a single module is up to 30KW, and constant power output between the DC output voltage 300-1000VDC. Under the same demand for charging power, it can output higher current and shorten the charging time. In terms of charging strategy, the split DC charging system is equipped with intelligent distribution function, which can intelligently distribute power according to the requirements of the vehicle BMS and greatly improve the charging efficiency.
The safety of fast charging needs to be improved both inside and outside. The protection grade of the SCU charging pile is IP55, and the metal enclosed shell can play the role of flame retardant, fireproof, explosion-proof and moisture-proof; It has a unique heat dissipation system with separate cold and hot air ducts. The power module has an independent heat dissipation air duct, which is separated from the control circuit heat dissipation. It can adapt to a wide temperature range, improve the heat dissipation efficiency, and is safer and more reliable.

Expand business value
In order to endow the EV charging station with higher enterprise value, SCU adopts customized design from product image to system management. Viewed from the outside, the overall design style and color are combined with DHL Express style to have more distinctive corporate characteristics and improve the overall image of the enterprise. For the internal charging management system, the VIN code self identification function is set, and the charging strategy is set in the operation background. The DHL Express internal vehicles identified do not need to scan the code to pay, but can be plugged and charged, simplifying the operation steps and improving the charging efficiency.
In the construction phase, the SCU fully considered the vehicle demand, floor area, transformer capacity demand, etc. of each charging station. According to the existing demand and the subsequent expansion demand, it provided a split DC charging system that can be expanded to 360KW. The charging terminal has a small footprint, which is suitable for being placed next to the vehicle, saving costs and providing convenience for the subsequent capacity increase demand.

After the completion of the EV charging station, the transportation cost can be greatly reduced. It is reported that when a logistics vehicle uses gasoline or diesel, the operating cost per kilometer is about 0.8-1 RMB, while the operating cost of new energy logistics vehicles is reduced to about 0.2 RMB. It can not only reduce transportation costs, but also reduce carbon emissions during logistics transportation.
Next, SCU will continue to improve its EV charger strategy, closely follow the development pace of DHL Express, layout and improve the EV charging stations in accordance with the principle of “accurate investment and construction, efficient operation”, constantly organize and densify the charging network, build a core charging backbone network covering the country, boost the development pace of green logistics, and promote the realization of the goal of “zero emissions”.
